Sensex falls over 450 points

Live Stock Market Updates - Sensex falls over 450 points; Auto, Banking stocks drag

The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading down 2.99% at 12,545, whereas BSE Small-cap Index is trading down 2.85% at 12,559. The INDIA VIX is up 12.13% at 17.3325. Out of 1,879 stocks traded on the NSE, 1,435 declined, 164 advanced and 280 remained unchanged today.The domestic market opened lower on Friday. The Sensex dropped over 300 points while Nifty slipped below 8,450 mark. There was selling pressure seen in HDFC, ITC and ICICI Bank.

At 1:09 PM, the S&P BSE Sensex is trading at 27,031 down 487 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 8,382 down 143 points.

The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading down 2.99% at 12,545, whereas BSE Small-cap Index is trading down 2.85% at 12,559.

Sun Pharmaceuticals, SBI, Axis Bank and Dr Reddy's are among the gainers, whereas HDFC, Asian Paints, Hero MotoCorp, HUL and Tata Motors are losing sheen on NSE.

All sectors are showing weakness on NSE except pharma index in green.

The INDIA VIX is up 12.13% at 17.3325. Out of 1,879 stocks traded on the NSE, 1,435 declined, 164 advanced and 280 remained unchanged today.

A total of 12 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trade today, while four stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.

IPCA Lab jumped 2.3% after the company has posted a net profit of Rs 54.9 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2016 as compared to Rs 12 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2015.

Capital First dipped 3% after the board approved to issue, offer and alott 47.8 lakh equity shares to Caladium Investment Ptd. Ltd., an affiliate of Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund GIC at a price of Rs 712.70 per share, the company said in its exchange filing.

Jain Irrigation Systems gained 2% after the company reported to Rs 4.7 crore in the quarter ended September 2016 as against net loss of Rs 5.7 crore during the previous quarter ended September 2015. 

ONGC ia trading marginally higher on the BSE. ONGC Videsh  and Petroleos De Venezuela S.A. (PDVSA) through their relevant subsidiaries signed two definitive agreements for facilitating redevelopment of the San Cristobal joint venture project in Venezuela on 4th November 2016.  
BPCL slipped 2%. The company will announce its Q2 numbers today.

Sun Pharma zoomed 4.7% after the company reported an over two-fold jump in its consolidated net profit to Rs 2,235 crore for the September quarter. The company had posted a net profit after taxes, non controlling interests, share of profit/loss of associates and joint ventures of Rs 1,028.8 crore for the same period a year ago.

Tata Chemicals dropped 5%. The company reported a marginal increase in its consolidated net profit at Rs 293 crore for the second quarter of the 2016-17 fiscal, on lower fertiliser sales. Tata Chemicals had posted a net profit of Rs 293 crore in the same quarter of the 2015-16 fiscal.

Bank of Baroda is trading marginally lower. The bank will announce its Q2 numbers today.

Wockhardt tanked 3%. Wockhardt reported net revenue for the quarter declined 13% to Rs 1064.7 cr during the corresponding quarter of previous year. This was inspite of 8% yoy growth in the UK business and 15% yoy growth in domestic business.

Reliance Defence and Engineering slipped 2%. The company’s standalone net loss narrowed to Rs 116 crore for the quarter ended September 30. It had posted a net loss of Rs 170 crore in the July-September period of the previous fiscal.

Andrew Yule soared 12.8%.  Andrew Yule reported 79% increase in its standalone net profit at Rs 27.14 crore in the second quarter of 2016-17 on account of higher income. The company had posted a net profit of Rs 15 crore in the year-ago period. 

Mahindra and Mahindra fell 2%. The company will announce its Q2 numbers today.

Balmer Lawrie & Co climbed 5.4%. Balmer Lawrie reported a marginal rise of 5.6% in net profit at Rs 27.6 crore for the July-September quarter compared to Rs 26.2 crore in the same quarter of the previous year. The company said its board of directors at a meeting held yesterday, 10 November 2016, recommended 3:1 bonus issue.

Shoppers Stop tanked 4.3%. Shoppers Stop is looking at doubling its mobile application downloads to 2 million and 15 percent sales through its digital touch points by 2020, a senior executive said. 

The rupee opened lower at 67.15/$ as against the previous close of 66.62/$. Rupee hits to lowest level since August 29 against Dollar.
